Modifications of Consciousness brings together two Los Angeles painters. A noted
muralist, Regina Argentin paints conglomerations of abstraction and representation in
her studio efforts. Noted Los Angeles painter Emily Elisa Halpern is a painter of the
unconscious with hints of representation. Combined in this Dulce Stein curation, the
power of each artist's individual works is made more potent interacting together for the
viewer. All great art aspires to elevate consciousness, and yet, in our tense times we
can only hope for slight alterations, peace meal, hence the title Modifications of
Consciousness, making this exhibition a pragmatic exploration of the possibilities when
abstraction encounters representational modes.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS' PROCESS
Regina Argentin explores the subconscious in saturated color creating distilled imagery
layered into abstract form. Her paintings reflect the narrative with a mystic quality. Using
parts of nature, wildlife and nudes, she creates an ethereal landscape in multi-layers of
translucent glaze gradations of vibrant color.

Emily Elisa Halpern's oil paintings are self-portraits of a dark and quirky inner life
where cryptic narratives guard the story. The richly textured canvases are a
combination of abstract and representational images, featuring bold colors and symbols.
Her process seeks to open the locked door of the unconscious through methods
suggested by Surrealism. Halpern aspires to create work that deepens our
understanding of the ways in which certain personal meanings reflect the complex
matrix of universally shared emotions.

Regina Argentin received her BFA at Art Center College in Pasadena. Upon graduation
she moved to NYC to pursue her passion as a fine artist. She participated in several

exhibits, teaches, and has also established her own fine and decorative arts business.
