Clara de Bobes, Abandonad Toda Esperanza, Acrylic & Oil on Canvas, 39.5'' x 32"

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Clara de Bobes in The Latin American Contemporary Fine Art Competition. The exhibition opens December 5 and runs through December 15, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, December 6 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Painter Clara de Bobes renders her subjects with a fiery intensity and a deep sense of longing. Focusing more on emotion than depth, de Bobes illustrates the psyche of the individual more than their physical appearance.

In Roland y Barthes, we see a blonde figure with wide, dreadful eyes and a gawking raven on her shoulder. Referencing the work of French literary theorist Roland Barthes, the work reflects on the limits on mythology. The raven seems to represent the allure of cultural myths, while the figure must face the brutal existence of reality.
