Phillips Announces Kano Curates
The UK Rapper and Actor has Selected a Series of 11 Works from Phillips’ October Sales of 20th Century & Contemporary Art
Phillips is proud to partner with the UK rapper and actor Kano ahead of the 20th Century & Contemporary Art auctions in London on 14 and 15 October. Kano has selected a series of 11 seminal works by both established and emerging artists. The Day Sale will be held on 14 October at 2pm, followed by the Evening Sale on 15 October at 5pm. A full-scale preview exhibition will go on view to the public at 30 Berkeley Square during Frieze Week from 6 to 15 October.
Kano said of his selection, "I am excited to partner with Phillips and to have curated a selection of eleven works from their upcoming 20th Century and Contemporary auctions. It has been an incredible learning exercise as well as a fun experience, discovering these important artists. As a storyteller, myself, in a different medium, it's inspiring to see these contemporary artists using their art to address issues and speak up for their communities. I am very grateful for the opportunity to choose this selection and have these unique perspectives showcased in these spaces."
A highlight work from Kano Curates is Jadé Fadojutimi’s Myths of Pleasure. One of London’s most exciting young artists, last year Jadé Fadojutimi became the youngest artist ever to have their work included in the Tate’s collection. Well known for her colourful and textured large-scale paintings which embrace both abstraction and figuration, Fadojutimi’s work explores identity and memory. Since graduating from the RCA in 2017, Fadojutimi’s work has been exhibited around the world, more recently in an exhibition at Hayward Gallery which is on view now, with solo exhibitions to follow later this year at Hepworth Wakefield and the ICA Miami, and in 2022 at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.
Further selections from Kano Curates include Lynette Yiadom-Boakye’s Wren, Serge Attukwei Clottey’s Fashion Icons, Titus Kaphar’s Holy Absence II, and Tunji Adeniyi-Jones’s impactful painting titled Pattern Makers.
