The PRIVATE ART DEALERS ASSOCIATION (www.pada.net), -- the first trade association to represent private art dealers, -- is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with its first-ever public exhibition, “PRIVATE GOES PUBLIC,” Nov 1 – Nov 16.
Thirty-two members of the 50-member strong PADA organization will exhibit a full range of fine art from the 17th to the 21st centuries at 13 East 69th Street, where galleries of three PADA members are located.
European and American paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and sculpture will be offered by PADA members participating in PRIVATE GOES PUBLIC and all the artworks on view will be available for sale. An illustrated catalog will provide details on each of the dealers exhibiting at this show.
According to Jill Newhouse, who co-founded the organization in 1988 with Lisa Schiller, Robert Dance, Douglas Berman and the late Janet Marqusee, “This is a chance for both seasoned and beginning art collectors to see important art rarely available for public view. PADA members are leading experts in their respective fields and provide a range of services to help art lovers evaluate, acquire, conserve and enhance their art collections. Our goal is to make art collectors more aware that private dealers offer specialty expertise to meld scholarship with the market place. Our member dealers have helped form some of the most significant art collections in the world by providing a level of personal service and advice not always accessible at larger commercial galleries.”
Member specialties include Old Master Paintings, Sculpture and Drawings, American and European 16th through 20th century prints, drawings, watercolors and paintings, Vintage and Contemporary Photographs, African-American art, Fine Art Miniatures, Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art, Latin American art, and 20th century Japanese art.
The PRIVATE ART DEALERS ASSOCIATION is the first association to represent leading art dealers who work from non-public spaces. Membership is open strictly by invitation and members commit to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards. PADA is a member of the international art dealers’ association CINOA (Confédération Internationale des Négociants en Oeuvres d'Art) and is an affiliate society of the College Art Association (CAA).
“Many collectors have met our members at art fairs and shows, and learned firsthand how valuable it can be to have the personal attention of a seasoned specialist to rely on when making art-buying decisions,” Robert Simon, a dealer in Old Masters says. “We’re delighted to be participating in the PRIVATE GOES PUBLIC event to demonstrate why collectors can benefit from making us their key source for important art from virtually every genre and century. PRIVATE GOES PUBLIC will allow more people to see more art from private dealers than any previous venue has allowed.”
PRIVATE GOES PUBLIC will coincide with the Twentieth Annual PADA Dinner on Monday, November 11th and the presentation of the organization’s yearly grant to a distinguished museum or cultural institution. For 2013, The Sterling and Francine Clark Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts will be honored with a grant to support a conservation project.
THE PRIVATE ART DEALERS ASSOCIATION has funded numerous philanthropic activities over the past two decades including projects at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Frick Art Reference Library, and the Museo del Barrio, among many.
Dealer Lisa Schiller concludes by saying, “We hope art collectors will take advantage of this first-time opportunity to see a wide range of art new to the marketplace from the world’s top private dealers.”
