Prices soared at Doyle's June 17 auction of Important Jewelry reflecting the current robust market and Doyle's ability to achieve exceptional prices. Bidders from around the globe vied for luxurious jewelry from prominent collections and distinguished estates across the country. Among the dazzling offerings were jewels by the world’s most prestigious makers, including Graff, Cartier, Harry Winston, David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels and Tiffany & Co.

With a pre-sale estimate of $2,063,600-3,083,400, the stunning sale total of $4,848,165 surpassed the low estimate by 135% with an exceptional 93% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.

Burma Ruby: $510,300
Highlighting the sale was a rare and important “Classic” Burma Ruby of approx. 3.90 carats graded in the rarest and most desirable “Pigeon Blood” color. The stone was set in a circa 1920 ring next to a diamond of approx. 2.65 carats, F color, VS1 clarity. Determined bidders sent the ruby soaring to $510,300 -- more than tripling its low estimate of $150,000-250,000.

Kashmir Sapphire: $409,500
From the same collection was an exquisite diamond Belle Époque brooch, circa 1910, set with an exceptional Kashmir Sapphire graded “Royal Blue” and weighing approx. 5.12 carats. Competitive bidding drove the brooch to $409,500, more than four times its low estimate of $100,000-200,000. Both pieces descended through three generations of the prosperous Thorne family of New York.

Colombian Emerald: $472,500
From another collection was a necklace suspending a drop-shaped cabochon Colombian Emerald that sold for $472,500, many times its estimate of $20,000-30,000. Measuring 19.2 x 12.15 x 11.92 mm, the emerald was set in a 19th century pendant capped by a silver disc.
