The Thuman family, famous for cold cuts and delicatessen products, consigned a large cast bronze figural sculpture entitled “The Abduction of the Sabine” signed P. Loison, Pierre Loison (French, 1816-1886). Elegantly situated on a rotating fluted column, the work stands nearly six feet tall.

A Far Hills, New Jersey family descended from the Dillons is selling a large collection that was in their contiguous large equestrian estates, Overleigh and Fieldview. There are black-and-white photographs and needlepoint of and vistas from the house, as well as a large collection of sterling silver, including a Spratling tea service (Estimate: $8-12,000) and impressive silver-plate, such as hot water kettles and epergnes. Caucasian rugs, needlepoint-upholstered chairs and Baroque style furniture also comprise some of the decorative arts. Numerous paintings come from the family as well. Most impressive is the period scrapbook that features about a half-dozen illustrated and inscribed letters from noted American illustrator Frederick Stuart Church to Lucy Sands Dillon. Horse trophies, ribbons and portraits provide a glimpse into a forgotten way of life.
