Second Year of Bedford Antiques Show under Reh Turi Management Promises to be Intimate and Exciting.

The Bedford Historical Society maintains ten buildings in Bedford, NY. The most familiar of these is Historical Hall on the town green. Built in 1806, it was moved to its present location in 1837 by twenty yoke of oxen. Although Bedford’s streets are no longer teeming with four-legged beasts of burden, 19 antiques dealers will be bringing their vans full of treasures into Historical Hall for a show and sale on November 8-9. For many years this small and charming show was run by the Historical Society, and when, two years ago, they decided to let the show go, Brad Reh and Debbie Turi picked up the ball. This November is the second year of the show under their expert management.

“It’s a small neighborhood show, and we look for an eclectic group of dealers who will satisfy the wants and needs of the area. Last year, both Martha Stewart and Catherine Zeta Jones came to the show, and they both made purchases,” according to Mr. Reh. Ms. Turi added, “It is a select group of dealers. We try to have minimum overlap of merchandise because it’s such a small show. It’s fun to do from the exhibitors’ perspective, and we try to pick dealers who are going to enjoy it.”

Brennan and Mouilleseaux of Northfield, CT, will be exhibiting for the first time. “We are looking forward to the Bedford show.  We like the idea of putting together a group of interesting things, and then having them in a casual setting in a town that doesn’t often do “casual.”  There will be variety, reasonable prices, and get this, no attitude.” Bruce Phillips of Fair Trade Antiques has an exceptional and eclectic collection which he acquires through extensive travel through India and Southeast Asia. He features an impressive display of high quality lighting, furniture, architectural artifacts, and decorative objects. Jaffe and Thurston also be exhibiting. They specialize in 19th and 20th century art, as well as Chinese export porcelain and American and European cut glass.  “We left careers in academia and research consulting and we use this background in our approach to our antiques and art. We do careful and extensive research on the items we sell.” Another exhibitor, Michelle Fox, is known for her vintage textiles. She also has a case of unusual Bakelite and Mexican silver jewelry. Framont of Greenwich, CT, specializes in fine paintings, drawings, and sculpture of the late 19th to early 20th century. Knollwood Antiques of Thorndike, MA, is known for his decorative flair and his booth that is always full of surprises. Ann Hall and Mark Brady of Anne Hall Antique Prints specialize in authentic nature prints from 1640-1900. David Zabriskie from Lake Placid, NY, has an eclectic mix. In his booth you will find anything from period American furniture to architectural pieces to oil paintings of genre scenes. George Betton Art and Antiques will be showing a variety of paintings, as well as some mid-century items. Both Brad Reh and Debbie Turi will have booths as well; Mr. Reh with his fine jewelry, and Ms. Turi, which she describes as “ extensive and varied, running the gamut from the eighteenth through the early twentieth centuries, and including furniture, paintings, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, porcelain, silver, lighting, and decorative accessories.

This pair of young show managers have all the energy it takes to put on a successful show and they know how to appeal to a varied audience.
