diane birdsall gallery is pleased to announce its newest exhibition and sale of recent work by New York artist and New London native Elizabeth Enders. An opening reception for Elizabeth Enders: Recent Paintings and Watercolors will be held on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 from 6 - 8 pm at 16 Lyme Street, Old Lyme. This exhibition will run from January 8th through February 19th, 2011.
Elizabeth Enders has had solo exhibitions at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, Real Art Ways, Alva Gallery, Chester Art Center in Nova Scotia, as well as Charles Cowles Gallery and Ulysses Gallery in New York City. An exhibition at the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, MA is slated for 2012. Her work is found in collections worldwide, including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Connecticut College, Dow Jones Art Collection, and the Florence Griswold Museum.
“Elizabeth Enders art is about language, literally and figuratively speaking. Whether she paints landscapes, flowers and plants, places and things – her art is about how she makes sense of this world and communicates it to others,” explains art writer Natasha Kurchanova, whose text is included in the exhibit. “Looking at her work, we become immersed in her intimate world, things she reflects upon and wonders about,” she adds.
The exhibition at diane birdsall gallery features recent oils and watercolors by the artist, most of which were completed in the last two years. Works include her botanical drawings as well as recent seascapes done in Nova Scotia. Birdsall chose recent work to acknowledge that Enders is an artist in the studio producing work all the time.
“Elizabeth Enders work excites me – the way she puts paint on the canvas, the almost Zen-like quality of her brush stroke,” says gallery owner Diane Birdsall. “She starts and stops the brush with deliberate attention knowing full well exactly what she wants to say.”
“Actually, art is her life. I don't think a day goes by that she does not funnel her thoughts in a creative manner into her drawings, her paintings or her writings,” Birdsall says.
The exhibit will include some delightful sketches from Enders’ notebooks. “These whimsical works reflect our often mundane days and ordinary events like sitting down to have a cup of coffee. But, under her creative eye, we can see that even a teapot can talk to us.”
