Beverly Hills, CA - March 3, 2017 - Carlyle Galleries International, Inc. (www.carlyle-auctions.com) latest art auction achieved solid results across multiple categories, at it’s February 9 auction.

A highlight of the auction was a mid-century, impressionist-style painting by Andre Vignoles which sold for $11,520 (including buyer premium), setting a new auction record for a landscape by the artist. “This painting was an exceptional quality landscape, by Vignoles - the best we have seen - in a large format, with a beautiful frame and Wally Findlay Galleries provenance, and there were multiple international bidders competing for it” commented, Carlyle CEO Jack Marks. The painting sold to a private collector on the East Coast.

Other strong performers included a 1985 work on paper by Provincetown artist Selina Trieff (1934-2015), which sold for $4,225 (including premium) to a Boston area collector. Contemporary art, and multiples were popular with all bidders, with a large Frank Stella “Had Gadya (Then came a Dog and Bit the Cat)” print with hand-coloring, selling for $18,200.

As in all auctions, there were plenty of bargains to be had. A watercolor portrait of a man, by Russian artist Vasily Petrovic Vereschagin (1835-1909) sold for just $2,600 with premium. The Russian art market is showing signs of recovery after prices have dropped over 50% in the past few years.

Carlyle Auctions, which specializes in selling fine art, exclusively through online auctions, had over 200 registered bidders from 41 countries, participating in the auction. As always, Carlyle offered bidders an eclectic selection of artwork - from Old Masters and 19th Century to Modern and Contemporary paintings by international artists.

Carlyle’s next auction is scheduled for March 16, 2017, and is featuring over 150 lots of “fresh to the market” fine art ranging from Old Masters to Mid-Century Modern and Contemporary.

One of the highlights of the March auction will be a pair of important 1950’s paintings by Filipino modernist, Macario Vitalis (1898-1990), from the collection of famed musician Louis Kaufman (1905-1994). Filipino art has emerged as one of the strongest performers over the past decade as artists like Arturo Luz, Vicente S Manansala, Romeo Tabuena and Fernando Cueto Amorsolo keep setting record prices.
