NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Leandro Miguel Cruz in A Splendid Summer Showcase. The exhibition opens August 24 and runs through September 14, 2019 with an opening reception on Thursday, September 5 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist 

Leandro Miguel Cruz paints playful and surreal images in bright, bold color. Cruz was born in the Dominican Republic and was raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. When he first moved to the United States as a child, Cruz underwent a major surgery that restricted him to bed for months. It was at this time that he began to draw and discovered his love for art, a passion that endured throughout his life. Cruz paints in oils, working in a style that draws influence from Cubism and his Caribbean roots. 

When painting, Cruz draws inspiration from the natural world. He is particularly intrigued by the vibrant colors of fish, birds, and other animal life. As an artist, Cruz hopes to work towards perfecting his ability to replicate the beauty that he finds in nature. Cruz’s work features strong shapes and colors. Through whimsical and dreamlike scenes, Cruz creates a sense of wonder in his viewer. His pieces also have an undeniable lightheartedness and sense of humor to them. Striking and spirited, Cruz’s paintings depict a world filled with amazement and surprise.
