The Lyme Art Association is fortunate to have the late Yves Parent's remaining works on display and available for sale in our downstairs gallery starting June 21st. While many maritime art enthusiasts have been transported by Yves’ maritime paintings, they may not know of his considerable experience in offshore sailboat racing. He crewed aboard Kriter IX, the French entry in the round the world races between 1981 and 1982 as well as many offshore races between 1962 and 1980. He sailed in eight Fastnet races and single-handed Trans-Atlantic Races which took him from France to the Caribbean in 1978 and 1982.
Yves sailed extensively in coastal New England, and often painted local scenes from the unique perspective of the sailor that he was: scenes of quiet anchorages from the vantage point of his own boat, views from the water of maritime landmarks that are familiar to boaters in our area, and sailboats and motorboats painted in the wind and water with an accuracy and authenticity that bespeak his years of "messing about in boats." Many of his paintings evoke the New England seashore experience and often the special magic of coves and islands that boaters know and love. Don't miss this opportunity to view a special collection of paintings by Yves, and purchase one of your own.
The Lyme Art Association, located at 90 Lyme Street in Old Lyme, CT, is open Monday through Saturday, from 10 am – 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm – 5 pm.
