Boston, MA:  Mark Davis of Mark Davis Mobiles will be leading two workshops and artist demonstrations at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) at the end of the month.  Join him on September 21, from 12:00-3:00pm and September 24, from 5:30-8:00pm. Davis will speak on his popular pieces, including hanging, wall-mounted, and freestanding mobiles that can be found in public and private collections around the country. The Boston artist is also represented in galleries locally and nationally. For additional information on Mark Davis and his work, please visit www.MarkDavisMobiles.com

At the workshops taking place at the MFA, viewers will discover the techniques of balancing shapes made from thin metal sheets in an elegant and interesting manner.  Attendees will be encouraged to try their hand at creating a simple mobile by joining cut paper shapes to thin wires. Both sessions will take place in the John, Bertram A. and Ronald M. Druker Family Pavilion. Both programs, which are being offered at no cost, are ongoing sessions and you are encouraged to drop in and stay for as long as you’d like.

Mark Davis is a Boston based artist who has been crafting mobiles for over 30 years. His first Solo Exhibition of jewelry and masks took place at Bloomingdale’s in Chestnut Hill in 1980.  Since then, specializing in small and large-scale mobiles, he has been a part of numerous solo and group exhibitions in Boston and New York. His work also resides in national public collections including, Lexus Corporation, Liberty Mutual Corporation, and the Howard Stern Collection in NY.

Most recently, he completed a large-scale installation titled “Healing Waters” commissioned by the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.  At nearly 70 feet in length, it is his largest installation to date, and incorporates hundreds of synchronized LED lights to create virtual waves of light that flow across the piece.  The commission has broadened awareness of Davis’ work, much of which is now available to view online at his newly redesigned website www.MarkDavisMobiles.com. He has also completed a number of private residential commissions around the country.
