Laguna Beach, CA (September 9, 2015) - Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) announced a new exhibition, David Ligare: Studying. Opening October 1st and running through October 31st at LCAD Gallery, the collection will feature preliminary studies for paintings in the Laguna Art Museum's exhibition, David Ligare: California Classicist.
The opening reception of David Ligare: Studying will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at LCAD Gallery, 374 Ocean Avenue, during the Laguna Beach First Thursdays Art Walk on October 1st. LCAD Gallery will extend its hours to 9 p.m. on October 17th, the evening of Laguna Art Museum’s opening reception for David Ligare: California Classicist.
Ligare, who has been a guest lecturer and visiting artist to LCAD in the past, again will meet with LCAD’s Fine Arts undergraduate and graduate students.
"LCAD is very excited to bring this never-before-seen look at David's work to Laguna Beach and the Southern California arts community," said Jonathan Burke, president of LCAD. "We are honored to work with our dear friends at Laguna Art Museum in curating a collection that tells the story of a painter’s deep passion for contemporary realism."
Ligare, described as an American Post-modern fine artist, paints in a neo-classical mode, using largely mythological narratives in his work. His paintings are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, San Jose Museum of Art, Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi in Florence and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Art in Madrid.
LCAD and Laguna Art Museum have exhibited complementary exhibitions in the past, including solo exhibitions of legendary California Regionalist painters, Rex Brandt and Phil Dike. Every summer, all LCAD Master of Fine Art students exhibit their art at the museum.
LCAD Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For additional information, please visit www.lcad.edu or call 949-376-6000.
