Teaching Tolerance on CanvasCarmen Rantzuch-Doll at Red Dot Miami 2014
by Dr. Barbara Aust-Wegemund, Art Historian
In the heart of Midtown Miami’s Wynwood Art District, Red Dot presents upcoming contemporary art in an elegant, gallery-style exhibition space. The juried, contemporary art fair is featuring an international slate of artists and galleries. Miami’s Wynwood Art District is the home to more than fifty galleries, five museums, seven art complexes and many art fairs and studios. Global art lovers enjoy discovering this district and named it one of most stylish neighbourhoods in the world.
Those, looking for something exciting at Red Dot Miami but also meditativeness can not ignore the series Community of Carmen Rantzuch-Doll. The artist, who lives in Freiburg (Germany), is represented at the booth of Gallery Studio 26 Eastvillage, NYC. Working in her own studio in Opfingen, Carmen Rantzuch-Doll describes that she feels tension, but also harmony and inner freedom during the creative process of painting.
In reviewing her artistic concept, she explains the meaning behind her work: "My paintings are playful explorations of life. I am thinking about how people are living together, how they respect each other, their dignity and their individual needs. My aim is to feel the spirit of live, no matter if in the urban space or in the country side – this approach of living together in peace connects us all.”
Carmen Rantzuch-Doll studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lahr, Germany (2006-2010). She has exhibited in various exhibitions in Germany and worldwide, LA Art Show, Los Angeles (2014), Gallery Milano, Italy (2014), Schloss Schönbrunn, Vienna (2013), Artists For Freedom - Charity Exhibition, Ulm, Germany (2013), Little Treasures, Bologna, Italy (2013), Arts-Inter, La Ravoire, France (2012), Amsterdam Showcase, Netherlands (2012), Hotel Best Western, Germany (2012), Kunstkreis Südbaden, Freiburg, Germany (2010), Regio Galerie Freiburg, Germany (2010), Salon International Dijon, France (2010), Académie Européene des Arts Paris, France (2008), Grand Prix International Dijon, France (2007) - among others.
The series Community is inspired by the recent changing social and economic constellations. How are people living together? How do they communicate – in the neighbourhood, in villages, in social relationships or social media? Carmen Rantzuch-Doll proposes how contemporary art can offer a language to read them against the complexity and concerns of our times. The final result are direct and spontaneous gestures on canvas, which give the paintings their inescapable explosiveness. It is her central motivation that contemporary art should be experienced in dialogue with the audience and community.
Carmen Rantzuch-Doll seeks to bring a playful spirit to the task of discovering what is needed, what is plausible, and what is challenging within the context of daily life – so let’s keep together.
