(Boston, MA)  Reside, Cambridge’s premier source for Mid-Century Modern furniture and design, announces the opening of their second location in Boston’s South End.  The new Boston furniture store, located at 1409 Washington Street, is a destination for original vintage furniture, design, lighting and home accessories.  The new location features iconic works by some of the 20th Century’s best designers and manufacturers such as Dunbar, Herman Miller, Nakashima, Vladimir Kagan, Milo Baughman; hard-to-find, out of production pieces by design titans like Knoll and Eames; and stylish pieces by lesser-known designers.  In addition to Mid-Century Modern, the store also offers affordable, stylish Machine Age, Danish Modern and later 20th Century design.  The South End location is open Sunday & Monday, 12pm – 6pm and Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-7pm.  For additional information, please call 857-350-3594 or visit www.ResideInc.com.

Mid-Century Modern, a term referring primarily to modernist furniture and decorative arts from the mid-1930’s to mid-1960’s, has seen a boom in popularity in recent years.  Even the Boston Museum of Fine Arts has included examples of Mid-Century Modern furniture, ceramics and other objects in its newly opened Art of the Americas Wing.

Reside owner and operator Pamela Watts is an expert in the field, having opened Reside’s Cambridge storefront nearly a decade ago.  Watts personally curates Reside’s unique inventory, tracking down the rare and beautiful objects that fill each store.  The store’s unique selection is constantly changing, enticing both design professionals and novices to return week-after-week to view newly acquired pieces that are quickly snapped up by savvy designers and customers.  Reside also takes requests for specific objects and will seek out and notify customers if a desired piece becomes available.

“Our second location affords us the opportunity to offer our customers an even wider selection,” comments Watts.  “Our new store in the South End is also in the heart of a blossoming design district, and we’re proud to join the ranks of some of the city’s best names in interior design.”

The opening of a second location has also resulted in a dramatic expansion of Reside’s inventory of modern furniture and accessories.  Because of Reside's 10-year presence on the Boston scene, inquiries from individuals looking to sell Mid-Century works in their collections have increased dramatically.  Highlights from the store’s current collection include tubular steel armchairs by Thonet, chests by Jens Risom, Paul McCobb, George Nelson, and others, including an Edmund Spence bureau, made in Mexico in the 1940s and boasting inset wrought iron scrolling.  Reside also features works by other notable designers such as Hans Wegner, Adrian Pearsall, Harvey Probber, Cees Braakman, and Peter Hvidt.   Reside's collection of modern lighting is also quite large, including floor, table and hanging lamps by designers such as George Kovacs, Sonneman, Lisa Larson and Holmegaard.

In addition to Reside’s two showrooms, most of its collection is also featured online at ResideInc.com, divided in to easy-to-navigate categories.  In addition to browsing Reside’s current offerings visitors of the website can also request specific items, view archives of the store’s past inventory, and register for Reside's newsletters.  Visit www.ResideInc.com for more information.
