Allan Katz Americana, a leading gallery in the field of period American Folk Art, announces the publication of their new 48-page color catalog.
This catalog contains masterworks in the areas of Trade Figures, Pottery, Weathervanes, and "unique" one of a kind pieces that have become the mission for Allan Katz and his partner Penny. Allan and Penny Katz specialize in period American Folk Art from the nineteenth thru the first half of the twentieth century.
Among the highlights is a rare and important Cigar Store Trade Figure in the form of "Captain Jinks," carved by Thomas White (1825-1910), a master carver who was employed in the carving shop Samuel Robb of New York City. This Captain Jinks reputedly represents Samuel Robb in his National Guard Dress Uniform. This particular figure is the very one pictured in the "Index of American Design." It last traded hands publicly at the sale of the Haffenreffer Collection in 1956.
Of note is the Warren Dragon Weathervane which is a unique and powerful example of weathervane art. Measuring an imposing 6 feet 10 inches tall, this masterwork was just recently removed from its roof location where it had been since it was originally installed in 1891.
Also offered is a rare grouping of Grotesque Face Jugs and Banks, some dating to as early as the mid-nineteenth century.
