Branko Filipovic Filo
One of the auction highlights is a large abstract painting by Serbian modernist,
Branko Filipovic Filo (1924-1998). This 1970 painting measures and impressive 53 1/2" x 37" inches (136cm x 94cm), is in excellent condition, and fresh-to-the-market from an important Palm Beach collection.
Regarded as one of the most important Serbian painters, a smaller abstract work by the artist sold for $19,500 recently. The Serbian collector market is still in its early stages, so there is strong potential for upside price appreciation. Bidding starts at $6,000.
Miguel Viladrich Vila
Another exciting auction offering is a painting by Miguel Viladrich Vila (1887-1956), depicting an man with exotic birds. Viladrich is a highly regarded Latin painter, born in Spain in 1887, Viladrich worked in Paris in the early 1900’s before moving to New York, and finally Argentina. Viladrich’s work defies easy categorization, but is closely associated with surrealism. Most of Miguel Viladrich’s paintings are owned by museums, and it is rare when a quality work such as the one being offered by Carlyle appears on the market, making this an exciting opportunity for serious collectors. Bidding for this painting starts at just $3,000.
Richard Tobias
A monumental 76” x 52” abstract painting by important 1980’s artist Richard Tobias (1952-) is up for bidding starting at only $2,000. The bright yellow geometric painting was completed in 1986, and was once part of the renowned Lehman Brothers art collection. Richard Tobias was regularly exhibited thought the 1980’s at the prestigious Brooke Alexander gallery in New York, and was shown at the Whitney Museum. The recent ArtBasel is showing that 1980’s painting is making a market come-back, making this an excellent opportunity for the astute collector.
