Boston, MA – A “Call for Events” has been issued for the Fifth Anniversary Boston Design Week, a 12-day citywide festival taking place April 4 – 15, 2018. Non-profit organizations, professional design associations, government agencies, individual designers, businesses and designer collaborative are all invited to propose events for Boston Design Week.

Boston Design Week is honored to announce that it is now a member of World Design Weeks, an international coalition to share knowledge, resources, and best practices, fostering the exchange of products and ideas, sustainable development and the growth of individual design events. We proudly join Barcelona, Beijing, Eindhoven, Helsinki, Mexico, San Francisco, Seoul, Tokyo, Toronto and several others globally.

In 2017 over 12,000 design enthusiasts attended more than 80 events that took place in 13 neighborhoods in Boston, and 14 towns in the greater Boston area. Proclaimed “Boston Design Week” by Mayor Martin J. Walsh, participants opened their doors to the public with exhibitions, panels, design contests, openings and other programs for families, professionals, and students.

All events are open to the public and most are free of charge. Events explore urban design, fashion, decorative arts, interior design, architecture, graphic design, product design, digital design and more. To download the Participant Guide, or to register an event visit www.BostonDesignWeek.com. The deadline to register the basic calendar information for an event is January 26, 2018.

“For ideas on the type of event you can offer, flip through the virtual edition of last year’s 112-page Guidebook on our website,” notes Tony Fusco, Co-Producer. “You’ll see an incredibly wide range of events appealing to all audiences.”

AD20/21 HOME, the culminating design expo of Boston Design Week, will take place April 12-15. The 4-day show and sale will offer a broad range of home décor, design, fine art and prints, and home design services. The show launches with a Gala Preview to celebrate Boston Design Week and to benefit the ASID New England Chapter (ASIDNE) Scholarship Fund.  The Gala takes place Thursday April 12 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. www.AD2021Home.com.

The overall theme of the 2018 festival is NOW, NEW, NEXT! The goal is to highlight current, new, or future design in all design arenas. If an event falls into one of the special focus tracks it will receive a designation to help audiences find it and follow a track that interests them. Tracks include Designing Boston, Professional Focus, and Design and Social Impact. Designing Boston includes programs on the design of our city, urban planning, historic preservation, public art and architecture. Design and Social Impact includes sustainable and renewable design, design with a social purpose, and related areas. Professional Focus incorporates industry-networking events, new product applications, design education and design contests.
