Plans for a $50 million expansion and renovation of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, have been unveiled.

National Medal of the Arts-winning architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien have dreamed up a grand gray- and white-brick façade looming over Dartmouth's Green. A new Center for Object-Based Inquiry will triple the museum’s capacity to fulfill its teaching mission.

The addition of 40 percent more gallery space and a flexible concourse will expand the museum's footprint and usage.

Architect Charles Moore’s award-winning 1985 design will remain intact with the addition focusing on the museum's present-day needs.

“The Hood has been a jewel at the heart of the Dartmouth campus for 30 years,” says Provost Carolyn Dever. “By putting learning at its core, this expansion will help drive what it means to have a teaching museum on an academic campus in the 21st century.”
