Global art lovers enjoy discovering this district and named it one of most stylish neighborhoods in the world.
Those, looking for something exciting at SELECT Miami but also meditativeness can not ignore the series of Fiona Ai Bubble. The artist, who studied Fine Art and Photography (BFA) at “Parsons New School for Design” in New York and Paris, is delighted to be selected for the show. Born in Sao Paulo, Brasil in 1984, Fiona Ai Bubble, civil name Fiona Tan, is influenced by her multicultural roots, her Brazilian, German, Dutch, and Chinese origins. Reflecting her rich cultural heritage, she is involved in East and West philosophy and aesthetics. To follow the meaning of Ai Bubble, it is useful to know that Ai means love in both Japanese and Chinese – while Bubble represents the notion of the mind and an enclosed universe. In a hybrid language where East meets West, ancient and modern culture come filtered through the sublime patterns of the mirrored motifs, Fiona Ai Bubble is creating her dazzling surreal-poetic abstractions.
Among her countless exhibitions worldwide, her works were showcased at Swiss Tower, Dubai (2014), Yas Viceroy Hotel, Abu Dhabi (2014), Art China Art Fair (2013), Imibala Gallery, Capetown, South Africa (2013), Museum of Oceanography, Monaco (2013), Art Hamptons (2012) and Norton Museum of Art Palm Beach (2009). Fiona Ai Bubble was awarded with Futurum Award in Monaco (2013) and the Medal from H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco (2009). Fiona Ai Bubble currently lives and works in Monaco.
Feeling tension, but also harmony and inner freedom during the creative process, she explains the aesthetic concept of her work: ”I transcribe moments of Self-Transformation into a philosophical tale. In every project, I emphasize the cycle of life, often represented by a process of decomposition and reconstruction. I create a new reality made of fragments. I recreate a puzzle by putting chaos into order and therefore exposing the ephemeral nature of human existence”.
Close to her aesthetic approach, there is a precision in her brand new series of mixed media works made of acrylic, crystal (quartz, black tourmaline and pyrite), plexiglas, varnish and glitter powder on an ultrachrome print on canvas. This precision mirrors the deep essence of her work. Like a scientist she analyzes philosophy from Buddhism and Christianity, is thinking about the exact proportions and measurements of the formal idea, which she is projecting into new manifestations. Every aspect of the composition is important, the choice of the material, the look of the surface. Fiona Ai Bubble’s technical aspects of the mixed media compositions are directed toward a sensory meaning that becomes a metaphor of existence in time and space.
In this sense Fiona’s art making process resembles a journey through some unknown metaphysical reality where the substance of life is explored and investigated, pulled apart and reconstituted. It is a purposeful equivocation between the physical and the metaphysical that endures in the artworks of Fiona Art Bubble. Open your eyes, open your heart and enjoy Fiona’s magic moments in Miami!
