Michael Kessler, "Forest (17), Acrylic on panel, 20" x 20"

The Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt is pleased to present Organic Evolution, a solo exhibition featuring the intricately layered paintings of Michael Kessler.  These works are informed by nature, with organic and geometric elements in his paintings integrated in perfect harmony.

"We are thrilled to present new works by one of our gallery's most popular artists," explained gallery director Julia Novy. "Michael is so at ease moving between hard-edged Minimalism and representational painting. His intensely-colored works range in size from the diminutive to the monumental, so there's literally a work to fit every collector's taste and wallet."

Kessler hails from rural Pennsylvania where he was influenced by the work of Andrew Wyeth during his teenage years and smitten by his natural surroundings. After years of observation, Kessler’s exploration of nature is now made manifest by between 20 and 100 micro-thin layers of translucent and transparent acrylic paint. Compositions are set up to draw attention to things that change and things that remain the same within a matrix of repetition. Nature is his model and transformation is his subject.  The result: an "organic evolution."

Michael Kessler’s art has been widely exhibited in the US and abroad, and has been featured in more than 70 solo exhibitions since 1983.  His paintings are widely collected and appear in over 25 museum collections in the US, including the Broad Foundation in Los Angeles, the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Kessler lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Organic Evolution will be on view at the Ann Korologos Gallery August 14 – September 4. For more information, please visit the gallery at 211 Midland Ave in Basalt, call 970-927-9668, or inquire online at http://korologosgallery.com/organic-evolution-michael-kessler/ or art@korologosgallery.com
