“So Claire-like. She would have been pleased and, well, proud. She certainly believed, rightly, in the importance of her work.”  —Paul J. Karlstrom, Essayist and oral historian

“An ingenious work of art on its own.”  —Maren Henderson, Falkenstein Foundation Trustee

Michael Rosenfeld Gallery is pleased to announce the release of Claire Falkenstein: Matter in Motion, produced on the occasion of the survey exhibition of the same name at Michael Rosenfeld Gallery (April 6–July 30, 2018) and the solo exhibition Claire Falkenstein: Time Elements at the University at Buffalo Anderson Gallery, Buffalo, NY (May 5–July 29, 2018). The fully-illustrated, 198-page publication contains 217 color reproductions and features a tribute to Falkenstein by sculptor Lynda Benglis. It also includes the artist’s final interview, conducted by essayist and oral historian Paul J. Karlstrom; this interview is published for the first time and without editing or abridgment.

Claire Falkenstein: Matter in Motion is edited and designed by halley k harrisburg and Matthew Newton, with art direction and production by CP Design, and printing by GHP Media, in West Haven, CT. It is creatively-designed to reflect the spirit of the artist; book design features include a copper metal spiral binding along with a thick, silk-screened acrylic cover.Claire Falkenstein: Matter in Motion, the gallery’s second solo exhibition for the artist, featured significant examples from the artist’s prolific oeuvre. While the artist is celebrated internationally for her exquisite structures of fused metal and glass, the survey also included works in a range of media: from early ceramic and wood sculptures to seminal explorations in metal to dynamic paintings and works on paper.

Since 2014, Michael Rosenfeld Gallery has been the exclusive representative of The Falkenstein Foundation.
