Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) announced MRS EAVES101: The Hand Painted Typography of Gemma O’Brien opening March 3 through March 26, 2016 at LCAD Gallery, 374 Ocean Avenue, Laguna Beach, California. The public is welcome to meet O’Brien at a reception during the Laguna Beach First Thursdays Art Walk on March 3rd from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Throughout the exhibition, O’Brien will create large-scale, hand-painted, site-specific typographical murals at LCAD Gallery. The public will have the opportunity to enjoy a live and unique experience.

“We are thrilled to have Gemma design and install a living, organic exhibition and share her creative work and process not only with LCAD, but also with designers, artists and creatives throughout Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego,” said Catharin Eure, chair of LCAD Design and Digital Media program. “To have a designer and typographer of her caliber interact with our students and with the public presents an outstanding educational and inspirational opportunity.”

Known to her more than 80,000 Instagram followers as mrseaves101, O’Brien is an Australian artist and designer specializing in hand-lettering and typography. In 2014, she was recognized by the New York Type Directors Club with an Award of Typographic Excellence. Her clients include Adobe, Volcom, Kirin Cider, QANTAS, Heinz, Smirnoff and The New York Times.

O’Brien will give workshops and lectures at LCAD during her stay in Laguna Beach. Workshop dates will be posted at www.lcad.edu as well as on Instagram and Twitter at @lcadbfa and @lcaddesign.

LCAD Design and Digital Media program’s multidisciplinary approach recognizes that a creative designer in today’s world must develop solutions that move seamlessly between print, web, motion and video. A graduate of the design program will be adept with traditional theory yet lead in the innovative use of technology.
