Celebrating its 40th birthday on Thursday, April 7, 2016, the Manhattan Art & Antiques Center invites the public to a roster of free events. The celebrations begin at 5:30pm with free appraisal sessions followed by an open house with gallery tours and an art auction from 6:30 – 9:00pm at the Manhattan Art & Antiques Center, 1050 Second Avenue at 56th Street, NYC. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. To RSVP, call 212.355.4400 or contact: info@the-maac.com
“This will be a fun event,” states Paul Anavian, the Center’s manager. “We look forward to having New Yorkers explore the Antiques Center. With 100 galleries, we are the largest art and antique center in the nation and a true treasure trove. You can find rare first edition books, luxurious antique furniture, and the best vintage jewelry.”
With a nod to the popular Antiques Roadshow, the Center will invite a member of the Appraisers Association of America to conduct free appraisal sessions. “This is a great opportunity to get your family treasures appraised. Our expert will explain the history and value of the object,” says Anavian.
A special highlight of the anniversary celebration is the benefit art auction with over a dozen art pieces donated by the Center’s dealers. The objects are valued from $500 to $5,000 and include pottery, sculpture, and jewelry ranging from 19th century European and Asian antiques to contemporary African and Native American art. Founded 40 years ago by real estate developer Leonard Litwin due to his admiration for art and antiques, the Manhattan Art & Antiques Center, located at Manhattan’s East Side, houses 100 galleries on three levels and about 70 top dealers who offer a variety of silver, jewelry, porcelain, tapestries, furniture, clocks, and paintings. The Center is the largest art and antiques center in the nation. Under Anavian’s management, the Center has increased the number of expert dealers and enlarged the variety of art objects to encompass European art and antiques and contemporary and ancient art from Asia and Africa.
