Since the 18th century, cufflinks have been a staple in men’s formal wear, aesthetically and functionally. Hatton Garden-based Rebus elevates the style, using the sophistication of classic cufflinks and melding them with client vision. A team of craftsmen and women from their in-house workshop use long-established methods and tools to lovingly craft exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces that are cherished and passed down for generations. Each pair of cufflinks is individually polished and hand engraved by a master goldsmith in England, giving a personalized touch to each design. Unique and character-building, Rebus cufflinks add a dashing addition to a man’s accessories. The perfect gift for him is the experience of making one’s own heirloom cufflinks with the Rebus workshop, virtually or in-person.
Emmet Smith, Founder of Rebus, says, “Today cufflinks are not only being purchased by men, but also by women to wear. They can inject a subtle, eye-catching sparkle to a shirt, or, if set with a beautiful stone, a pop of color. They should not be considered just for formal occasions. We made a pair for one of our female customers; she wore them with a large collared oversized shirt, and she looked great.”
Rebus cufflinks explore an individual’s vision and ancestry. One can choose to have a classic motif rendered, such as an initial, crest, or coat of arms, but unique designs are also a great option, such as child’s fingerprints, a pet, or memento mori symbolism. Engravings offer one an opportunity to express values and hopes, making a statement with each handshake.
The cufflinks are available with two different backs: a Chain Linked Back, where four polished faces are linked by a chain for durability, or a Swivel Back, which comfortably snaps in place. Available in 9K or 14K yellow or white gold, as well as sterling silver, each style features horizontal oval faces, ready for engraving; cufflinks can also be oriented into a vertical face, if preferred. Clients may choose between deeply carved or shallow surface cuts, for the hand engraving.
