At Art Central Hong Kong 2018, from March 27 to April 1, New York art gallery Marc Straus will feature Entang Wiharso in a special public presentation as part of this year's PROJECTS section.
Wiharso's “I Want To Live 100 Hundred Years: After Agreement” is an emotional, personal reflection on today’s mass-shootings, and is a memorial for those innocent children and for all people facing violence, according to the artist. This seminal work will be on display at a public wall at the fair, in addition to the works by other artists at Booth E04.
In a statement, the artist explains: "The tragedy of school shootings in the US was the impetus for the work I Want to Live 100 Hundred Years: After Agreement. As an artist in residence in Melbourne, Australia in 2012 I heard the devastating news about the Sandy Hook school shooting in the US. I worried about my own children’s safety and I prayed for my children’s future. Like all parents who have “agreed” to love and protect our children, my heart went out to the families involved in this tragedy. I thought about our hopes for long life and the interconnection of children with parents and the communities they live in. The figures are bound together through a network of intersecting intestines to show the essential but vulnerable connections that exist between them... I Want to Live 100 Hundred Years: After Agreement is the expressions of my dream to create a better and more peaceful future for our children, a future where this kind of tragedy never happens again."
Marc Straus will also be showing works by Jong Oh, Doug Argue, Anna Leonhardt, Antonio Santin, and Clive Smith.
