Queer Sites and Sounds:
Call for Submissions for CA+T's Next Virtual Exhibition
Deadline Extended to Oct. 15
The Center for Art and Thought (CA+T), a web-based arts and education nonprofit organization, announces a call for submissions to its next virtual curated exhibition, Queer Sites and Sounds. The exhibition is expected to premier in early December on CA+T's website (centerforartandthought.org).
Queer Sites and Sounds continues CA+T's mission to provide a space for creative and intellectual work alternative to the mainstream and dominant culture. By exploring contemporary Filipino queer art produced with new media and/or digital technologies, we ask what forms of Filipino new media and digital queer culture excite or demand our critical and creative engagement? This one-of-a-kind exhibition uses the flexibility and potential of CA+T’s virtual space to foreground queer digital cultures’ transformative potential.
CA+T is particularly interested in artists who use new media and/or digital technologies in their work to destabilize, transform, or challenge normative notions of what Filipino bodies are; how those bodies are seen, read, or heard; and how the artist’s work participates in a global web of queer inter/actions.
Queer Sites and Sounds will showcase the queer possibilities of this new media and digital moment for Filipino diasporic artists. Queer identification by artists is not a precondition to be included in the exhibition. CA+T is interested in submissions that utilize non-normative gender and sexual expression, whether directly through content or through form, as a critical lens to illuminate global conditions.
CA+T’s virtual platform can accommodate digital images, sound files, film and video, creative and scholarly prose and poetry, PDFs, and more. The deadline for submissions has been extended to October 15, 2013.
