The diane birdsall gallery is delighted to announce Ambient Light, the first solo show by photographer Adrien Broom, opening in Old Lyme on Saturday, October 16th and on view through November 13th, 2010.
Adrien Broom is a self-taught photographer with an eye for the bizarre and beautiful. Her images often tell stories, exploring conversations and creating worlds that don’t quite exist in the usual way. Adrien works with a model, often dressed in costume or elaborate finery. She incorporates children and animals and scouts or creates settings that have natural beauty in exaggerated form.
The word “magic” does come to mind when you stand before her photographs. As she is able to twist and turn the picture plane to phantasmagoria, she names one of her series “Wonder”.
“Movement” is another series title. Here she photographs a woman in water that suggests floating angels. But Adrien also enjoys other iconic imagery and her photographs of cars from a recent trip to Cuba are funky, pop, colorful and fun.
Adrien’s experiences in different media have greatly shaped her approach to her art. She received a BA in 3D Computer Animation in Boston, has studied Fine Art in Florence, and has studied Art History in Christie’s in London. These experiences have influenced the composition and painterly quality she tries to achieve in her work.
Adrien’s commercial work revolves around music, fashion, editorial and portraiture. She has been recently published in Rolling Stone, Relix Magazine, Marie Claire, Nylon Magazine, Blender Magazine, The Boston Globe, Pollstar and The New York Sun. W- Magazine recently named Adrien as one of the new up-and-coming photographers to look out for.
Ambient Light will open at diane birdsall gallery, 10 Lyme Street in Old Lyme on Saturday, October 16th with an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. This event is open to the public and admission is free. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11-5 and Saturday & Sunday from 12-4.
