Never trust a Rabbit!

Eckhard Besuden at RED DOT Miami 2013

by Dr. Barbara Aust-Wegemund  Red Dot Miami is a highly successful art fair taking place concurrent with Art Basel Miami Beach. Up to 80 national and international dealers exhibit contemporary photography, painting, sculpture and works on paper in a luxurious 50,000 square foot venue. Focused on a boutique art fair for galleries specializing in emerging, mid- career and established artists, RED DOT presents values beyond current trends. Located across the street from other high caliber art fairs such as Art Miami, Scope and Art Asia in Miami's Wynwood Art District, RED DOT holds a prime location. The luxurious layout of the tented venue provides visitors with a sophisticated and friendly environment.
Those, looking for something exciting or curious at the art market can not ignore the work of  Eckhard Besuden. Humor, irony and a lifelong fascination on the arts are his typical attributs. Influenced by his mother, an artist who taught him in painting techniques, he was involved in the process of painting since his childhood. Eckhard Besuden, who lives in Germany on Lake Constance, is represented in Miami at the Red Dot Art Fair of the EUART Gallery. Born in 1964, Eckhard Besuden describes himself as a follower of Antideterminismus. This movement is characterized by the fact that conventional quality characteristics in the evaluation of contemporary art - such as uniqueness, freshness, authenticity and recognition as well as an artist’s CV with certifications and diplomas – are to be refused. "For that single reason," Eckhard Besuden says, "I'm on the first art market, the most aspiring to every professional artist, a No-Go."    Eckhard Besuden is not handling or finalizing the only one style. He rejects the cult of genius and tries to escape from any rules of the art market. The consciousness of irony and openness in controverse meanings, which is expressed in his attitude, could be understood as an invitation to confront with the postmodern movement, including the refusal of final realities and binding judgments. Consequently his experiments with clichéd motifs and puns, if Bambi, Sea Rabbit or lumpfish, are not simply due musings but rather an irrepressible curiosity to explore the limits of painting and in doing so to use an independent plurality of styles. Now, after the imaginative and bustle of the artist indulged in a sequel, the bizarre animal beings will arrive in Miami: See you soon at Art Basel Week.
