The 18th edition of ArtPalmBeach will take place January 22­-25, 2015 with a preview evening January 21st at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The fair will present 85 international galleries and partnering art institutions exhibiting contemporary and emerging artists, guided through the lens of this year’s curatorial theme, “Going Global,” a program committed to introducing new galleries from Asia, Latin America, Eastern and Western Europe. Art, performances, panels and films will be presented by an international selection of cutting­edge artists, galleries and curators. The long standing fair established in 1997 by Lee Ann and David Lester appeals to those most curious to experience the freshest work on the market and is regarded as the most influential winter contemporary and modern art fair for Florida.

PROGRAMMING HIGHLIGHTS

The Collector

Art Forum Series will offer attendees a full program of daily lectures and presentations, artist panel discussions, book reviews with author’s insights, video screenings and premieres, including these program highlights: Video Screening "Pull of the Moon" a collaborative film project by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and Navajo light and sound artist Bert Benally. The video shot in the remote Coyote Canyon on the New Mexico Navajo reservation in June offers one of the first publicly accessible opportunities to view the temporal land artwork. Presented by the New Mexico Arts & Culture.

Author Insights

Aperture Foundation, New York, will sponsor a presentation of photographer Robin Schwartz's new book "Ameila and the Animals," a series of photographs the photographer has made of her daughter with a menagerie of different animals from the time she was a baby to present day.

Panel Discussion

Gallerist Thomas Riley, will moderate the “Narrative and Concept” panel discussion between Joey Richardson, England’s preeminent wood turner, Bing Pho, artist and internationally acclaimed storyteller, and Lucie Lyon. A reception for the artists will follow.

Kinetic International Art Biennale 2015 organized by the Boynton Beach Art in Public Places will sponsor a panel discussion “Progression of Kinetic Art” moderated by curator Nancy Shiffer.

Panel Discussion

Jim Baker, Executive Director of the Pilchuck Glass School, Seattle, will moderate a discussion titled “The Future of Glass is Already Here.” Video Screening Screening of the new documentary film, "Pilchuck: A Dance with Fire." The feature will include a varied and entertaining mix of interviews to explore the history of how a small art center in Washington became the center of the American’s leading glass institution.

Author Insights

Presentation by Jean­Pierre Laffont, international photojournalist about his new book "Turbulent America 1960­1990," a documentary of the author's travels in 50 states that reveals a unique view of an American people exercising freedom as viewed by a foreign photojournalist. An exhibition of Laffont’s works will be sponsored by FotoFusion and scheduled during the same weekend at the International Photography Center.

Presentation

“Surrealism and Magic” presentation by Dr.Irvin Lippman, the Executive Director of the Boca Raton Museum of Art, on the surrealist's interest in magic and spirituality in the Museum’s upcoming "Surrealism and Magic" exhibition, Jan. 26­ April 5. The exhibition was organized by the Hubert Johnson Museum, Cornell University.

PERFORMANCES AND EXHIBITOR HIGHLIGHTS

Performance "PLASTIC DORIANNE IN LOVE," a performance art piece by Beatriz Millar, sponsored by WhiteSpace Contemporary Art, West Palm Beach. The twenty minute performance will include eleven heartfelt songs from the 1930s, 40s and 50s presented as Millar’s alter ego,

The Plastic Dorianne with a silicone life­size sculpture resembling the artist. Daily performances will be held in a special Cabaret Club setting designed by the artist for the fair.

Exhibitor Highlights Lucy Lyon’s "Sandy Hook Memorial" presented by Tom Riley Gallery, a sculpture of cast glass, stained glass, and bronzed and powder­coated aluminum depicting a school library and chairs.

Exhibition of Karen Bystetd’s "The Lost Warhols," a collection of photographs lost for 28 years, presented by Evan Lurie Gallery.

PARTNERSHIP HIGHLIGHT

Continuing its partnership with Art Synergy, the countywide gallery walk weekend that takes place in nine historic art districts from January 22 – 25, 2015, the dates of the fair have been revised to provide an additional, mid­week day for event programing. Supported by the Palm Beach Cultural Council, Mayor's Offices, DDA and Community Redevelopment Agencies, Art Synergy will include gallery receptions, open artist studios, performances, museum openings, lectures and special architectural tours. ArtPalmBeach will feature a specially curated juried exhibition of locally based artists comprised from these nine art districts at the fair.
