The Mid-Market Struts Its Stuff in Rago’s Big $1.8 Million April Auction Weekend

Rago Arts and Auction Center’s 2200 lot three-day marathon auction on April 19, 20 and 21 brought home a solid $1,792,141 for the auction house and its consignors. The three day sale included a Great Estates auction on Saturday and two days of Rago Unreserved: an auction of art and furnishings on Friday and an auction of jewelry, silver and fashion on Sunday.
“The five top lots of the Estate auction were Asian, Russian, African and the bidding reflected this – there was lots of international interest in this sale. We saw support from both dealers and collectors,” said Miriam Tucker, partner at Rago’s. “Of course the current commodity prices for silver had an effect on Sunday, but the bidding in both the unreserved sales was pretty much strong across the board, especially for 20th c. modern furnishings and gems. There is clearly an appetite for quality mid-market pieces at the right price. With that in mind, we are now actively accepting consignments for September Unreserved and Estates auctions and welcome inquiries.”
