Winter Antique Show

(New York, NY – DECEMBER 1, 2015) The Winter Antiques Show has enlisted some of the brightest stars in the world of interior design to be the Show’s Honorary Design Chairs: Nate Berkus, Ellie Cullman, Alexa Hampton, and Markham Roberts. The celebrated group is supporting the upcoming Show, which will be held January 22-31, 2016 at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, NY, with the Opening Night Party on January 21, 2016.

"We challenge ourselves every single year to try and make the Winter Antiques Show more impressive than the year before -- to take it from strength to strength. If we had a motto, it would be 'Let us surprise and inspire you!’” Arie Kopelman, Winter Antiques Show co-chair, says. “In 2016 the Winter Antiques Show is starting a new tradition: We will have an A-list group of Honorary Design Chairs. This year Nate Berkus, Ellie Cullman, Alexa Hampton, and Markham Roberts have been chosen, and they are already lending their enthusiastic support. We are thrilled to be working with these four design stars.”

Berkus, Cullman, Hampton and Roberts were selected as Design Chairs based on their prominence in the industry and expertise in decorating with antiques.

Since Berkus established his award-winning interior design firm at the age of 24, his approachable and elevated philosophy has transformed countless homes around the world through his design work, home collections, books, television shows and media appearances. Nate’s work has been featured in publications including Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, VOGUE, InStyle, O Magazine, People and ELLE DÉCOR, which included him on their “A-List” of the world’s top designers.

Berkus says: “ The Winter Antique Show in New York is a not-to-be-missed event… year after year it assembles the best of the best; from the dealers, to the one-of-a-kind antiques on display. As a designer, I love to shop the show, for inspiration and for my clients. The best interiors are ones that are assembled over time, that have character and patina. Layering in antiques and vintage finds is what adds that. I’m so thrilled to be an Honorary Design Chair this year, and to see what the 2016 Show has in store for us.”

Cullman founded the design firm Cullman & Kravis over 30 years ago. Known for layered, dynamic interiors, luxurious finishes and exquisite details, the firm’s work embraces a “modern traditional” aesthetic. This fresh approach is contemporary yet respects the company’s passion for fine art and antiques. Cullman has been regularly included in Architectural Digest’s coveted AD 100 list of the world’s best interior designers and architects since 2000.

Cullman adds: “The Winter Antiques Show has been such an important part of my aesthetic education over the years, and I delight in the treasures I have found for clients, and myself! I am so honored to be serving as an Honorary Design Chair for the 2016 Show.”

Hampton took over the leadership of her father Mark Hampton’s world-famous design firm upon his death in 1998. She has completed a wide range of designs for domestic and international projects, from New York City to Hangzhou, China, including apartments and large residences, private airplanes and yachts. A regular member of the AD100 and House Beautiful’s Top Designer list, as well as a member of Elle Décor’s A-list, Hampton’s work is best described as classic and eclectic.

Hampton notes: “The Winter Antiques Show has been a part of my life as a New Yorker, and a designer, for years. It is as much a part of the fabric of the city as the Armory that houses it, and I am thrilled to be a part of this year’s Show!”

Called by Vogue “a master of timeless American style,” Roberts has earned the reputation as a top decorator of his generation. He and his work have been featured in Architectural Digest, Domino, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, House & Garden, Southern Accents, Town & Country, and The New York Times, among others. Roberts has been named to the AD100 and lectures on decorating across the country.

Roberts observes: “I am delighted to be serving as an Honorary Design Chair for this year’s Winter Antiques Show. I find the Show like discovering a very good unknown museum, and each year I come away with a feeling that I have seen something revelatory and outstanding. It is the perfect way to expand one’s breadth of knowledge of antiques, artwork and the decorative arts.”

The naming of Honorary Design Chairs for 2016 builds on the Winter Antiques Show's engagement with designers during the Show's run. The annual by-invitation 1stdibs Designers Brunch on the Show's opening day gives designers and clients a private morning view of the Show. In addition, more than 70 designers serve on the Interior Design Committee of Young Collectors Night on January 28. The special evening is chaired by Wendy Goodman, design editor of New York magazine.

Proceeds from the Show benefit East Side House Settlement, a leading social services organization that provides quality education and technology training for students in the South Bronx and surrounding communities. Founded in 1891, East Side House celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2016.
