Metropolitan Washington DC-based Sloans & Kenyon Auctioneers and Appraisers is delighted to present at auction a complete set of eight architectural renderings depicting Frank Lloyd Wright’s Key Project for Ellis Island, New York (1959).  The drawings by Wright in association with Taliesin Associated Architects are one of the highlights of Sloans & Kenyon’s Sixth Annual Auction of Americana and More…scheduled for November 14, 2010.

Key Project was Wright’s visionary solution to urban living and proposed apartment complexes, theaters, shopping, and other amenities in a car-free suburban environment designed for Manhattan commuters.  

Never realized, Key Project was one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s last projects before his death in 1959.

Sloans & Kenyon President Stephanie A. Kenyon ASA comments that “Key Project for Ellis Island, a testament to American ingenuity and an important contribution to the history of American architecture, is thoroughly Wrightian—a culmination of the architect's career-long interest in the potential of utopian design. It’s as forward-thinking today as when first conceived, and remains an imaginative solution to city and suburban planning.”
