Modern homeowners may no longer be designing period rooms for their home, but the search for beautiful things has constantly stayed in style. Trefler’s, the oldest comprehensive restoration company in the United States, is excited to be participating in the Second Annual Boston Design Week. Trefler’s participation in Boston Design Week helps to educate people on the importance of preserving and restoring the furniture and home décor that is valuable to them.

On Wednesday, March 25 from 6:00-8:00pm, Trefler’s will host legendary Boston interior designer Charles Spada as they explore various projects that showcase antiques in contemporary settings. Together the experts at Trefler’s and Charles will demonstrate how worn antiques can be restored or repurposed, to be incorporated into even the most modern of residences.   The event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to: treflers-charlesspada.eventbrite.com. For more information, visit www.Trefler.com or call 617-965-3388.

Part of the inspiration for this event came when a recent Trefler’s client wanted to incorporate her treasured wall sconces into her contemporary bathroom remodel. To best match the new décor, the wall sconces needed a stronger visual presence. Before replacing the sconces she sought the advise of Trefler’s decorative arts expert, Laura Sheehan.  Laura worked with the client’s contractor to create a custom mirror and frame upon which the sconces could be mounted. After painting a multi-color wash over the entire frame and expertly layering details, Laura was able to match the frame to the metallic sconces. The custom mirror with mounted sconces now has the commanding visual presence to complement the remodeled bathroom.

For almost 100 years, Trefler’s has expertly mixed century-old techniques with modern restoration technology to execute some of the best restorations in the world. Whether it is refinishing antique furniture to match changing decor, sizing down a table to fit a new dining room, or converting a wardrobe into a TV cabinet, Trefler’s restoration experts can breathe new life into furniture and décor to complement any home design.

Trefler’s was founded in Germany, where Abraham Trefler began a small business building and restoring furniture.  Abraham’s son, Eric, was one of the few survivors of the camps in Poland and Germany during World War II.  After Liberation, he left Europe for America and finally settled in Boston, where he initially worked as a furniture restorer for antique dealers on Beacon Street.  He ultimately opened his own business, and using the expertise he learned from his father, quickly became recognized for his uncanny ability to restore almost any kind of object.  Today, Trefler’s is still owned by the Trefler family. Trefler’s is located at 29 Tower Road in Newton Upper Falls, MA.  Hours are Monday through Friday 9:00AM to 6:00PM, and Saturdays from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. For additional information, visit www.Trefler.com or call 617-965-3388.
