Earle D. Vandekar of Knightsbridge, Inc. are pleased to announce the arrival of a major collection of sailor's woolworks or woolies as they are affectionately known.  They can now be seen on our website - www.vandekar.com.

What makes this group so interesting is the variety of subject matter.  One depicts a group of American Nany ships, another shows two sailors dancing with their female companions.  One depicts one ship being towed by another and one has extraordinary trapunto work.

Sailors' woolworks were created by British and American sailors in the second half of the 19th century.  This remarkable folk art by self-taught craftsmen depict ships, events and places visited and seen by the sailors on their voyages at sea using Berlin wool.
