NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Jutta Ebeling-Dehnhard in The Figure and Unknown Places. The exhibition opens July 7, 2018 and runs through July 27,  2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, July 12 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

German artist Jutta Ebeling-Dehnhard reinterprets the genres of still life and figure painting in her acrylic canvases that depict the everyday. Painting with a combination of brushes and spatulas, the artist filters art historical traditions through a decidedly contemporary lens. Her figures and forms are pared to their essentials; shapes are often flattened and painted with swaths of unmodulated color, and objects are rendered with thick outlines. Backgrounds are either simplified or excluded entirely, often creating a sense of compressed space.

In her paintings titled Still Life Together and Still Life Look Through, Ebeling-Dehnhard depicts an array of bottles, jugs, and vases using substantially different techniques. Bold blocks of color create an abstracted composition in the former while the latter features bold, painterly brushwork. Three starkly differing examples of figuration are also on view. Female Nude with Colored Background is a vibrant abstraction utilizing playful distortion, Seated Male Nude is a subtle and introspective portrait, and Female Semi Nude is a nuanced composition in charcoal that includes only essential visual information.
