Jackson, Wyoming – September 16-17, 2016 – Trailside Galleries and the Gerald Peters Gallery are pleased to announce the tenth annual Jackson Hole Art Auction, scheduled for September 16-17, 2016 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Both sessions will be held at the award-winning Center for the Arts in downtown Jackson Hole. Jason Brooks will serve as auctioneer.

The Jackson Hole Art Auction is pleased to announce the addition of several important historical works to the 2016 sale. Among the new highlights is an exceptional piece by Charles M. Russell titled Buffalo Hunting. The 20 1/8 x 24 oil on canvas is estimated at $500,000-$750,000 and is currently available for preview at the Jackson Hole Art Auction office. Additional highlights include two impressive California landscapes; High Sierra Landscape - Big Pine Canyon by Edgar Payne (28 x 34, $50,000-$75,000) and Encampment Surrounded, 1890 by Thomas Hill (26 ½ x 37 ¼, $40,000-$60,000).

Also included in the upcoming September art auction are three significant works by Maynard Dixon. Foremost among these is Cattle Drive, 1939. This large-scale 49 x 36 ½ mixed media on panel will be offered at $500,000-$800,000. A study for one of Dixon’s largest murals, the work represents the height of the artist’s career and an important moment in American art. Indian and Soldier (The Indian Yesterday) and Indian and Teacher (The Indian Today), 1938, will be sold as a pair with an estimate of $20,000-$40,000. The 16 1/8 x 33 7/8 (each) charcoal studies served as the initial composition for a pair of murals commissioned by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, still extant in Washington, D.C.

Current wildlife highlights include high-quality works by Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert, Bob Kuhn, Ken Carlson, and Robert Bateman.

Current highlights of the Session I sale include small works by Richard Schmid, Olaf Wieghorst, and Eanger Irving Couse. The objective of the Session I sale, scheduled for September 16, is to offer well-curated, high quality works for the young or emerging art collector.
