C. Dianne Zweig, an Avon resident with a Mixed media art studio on the second level of The Farmington Valley Arts Center (FVAC) in Avon, just off route 44, came up with the idea of assembling a group of current FVAC artist alumni to take their work on the road. Melissa Meredith, a Master printmaker with a studio a few doors down from Dianne, suggested this new art collective be called "The Fuse Factory Artists" . The group's name is derived from the original use of the Art Center building which housed the Climax Fuse Company in1884 and wa acquired by Ensign-Bickford in 1907.
Sharing with the public has always been a mission of FVAC, a nonprofit art center celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. While resident artists open their studios to the publlic on the first Saturday of each month and show their work in The Fisher Gallery and solo regional exhibits, "The Fuse Factory Artists" are after a new twist to some old issues, such as "how to become findable" and share their artwork and process. With the help of Diianne's son Ben Zweig, a creative strategist at a social enterprise consulting firm Social Edge Consulting, the group is currently developing their online marketing and promotion.
This group of accomplished artists includes Candace Abbott, Ginny August, Annette Baser, Susan Brereton, Claire Fish, Betsy Gardner, Fran Hoffnagle, Danielle Langford, Estelle Laschever, Melissa Meredith, Avis Turner and Dianne Zweig. They describe themselves as "a mildly combustible group of professional juried artists who needed the power of the group to light their fuse and get them get out of their art studios once in a while to share with others what they are painting, sculpting or creating all day long.
Invited by the manager of Bodytallk Boutique a women's contemporary clothing store in Avon, "The Fuse Factory Artists" will be launching their very first community event on May, 1, 2014.
Enjoy the coloroful ride as Dianne takes you along to some of her favorite galleries, studios, events, shows, antique shops, markets, Schmooze about antiques, collectibles, retro, art, vintage, kitsch, lifestyle, trends and more.
