BILLIE HOLIDAY, SHE WAS DREAMING...
- April 29, 2020 05:43
As viewers entered my twice held over exhibit
of 40 artworks at the CALIFORNIA AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM,
this particular work, HOLIDAY DREAM, evoked many emotions
and sometimes tears, as revealed to me from the museum's staff.
I IMAGINED BILLIE HOLIDAY passed out on a beautiful sofa,
having just come in from a late night gig, LADY DAY was
partially dressed, GARDENIA still in her hair and a TOURNIQUET
around her arm, needle scars, the demons of HEROIN.
She remains to be the most famous JAZZ DIVA
in history and her legacy has been interpreted by
DIANA ROSS in LADY SINGS THE BLUES and then
AUDRA MCDONALD in LADY DAY at EMERSON'S BAR & GRILL.
ROSS was Oscar-nominated and AUDRA, a Tony award.
I wanted BILLIE HOLIDAY to appear serene perhaps
dreaming of LOUIS MCKAY and this would be the scenario
by which she was found the next morning passed away,
instead of the hospital, guarded by police, nearly penniless.
HOLIDAY DREAM remains in my priivte collection although
soon I will reveal a NEW INTERPRETATION that will be offered
by GALLERIE MICHAEL KILGORE or by one of my agents.
