THE MAJESTY OF THE HARLEM RENAISSNCE
WAS MY INSPIRATION IN CREATING THIS ARTWORK,
SUGAR HILL SOCIAL CLUB IN 2004. INSPIRED BY
THE DARK TOWER OF A'LELIA WALKER, DAUGHTER OF
MADAM C.J. WALKER. AT THE DARK TOWER, THE ELITE GATHERED
ON A WEEKLY BASIS, THE CULTURAL ICONS. JUST TO MENTION,
ALL THE GOWNS ARE FROM THE ARCHIVES OF
KILGOUR AND SWEET HAUTE COUTURE AND WERE
ACTUALLY ORDERED BY OUR CLIENTS. THE GOWN TO THE
EXTREME RIGHT, ORDERED BY THE ICONIC LENA HORNE.
MENSWEAR BY MIKEL KILGOUR MADE-TO-MEASURE COLLECTION.
THIS ARTWORK REMAINS TO BE IN MY PRIVATE COLLECTION
EVEN THOUGH MANY HAVE INQUIRED TO ACQUIRE THE ORIGINAL.
CERTAIN WORKS, I CANNOT PART WITH AND THIS IN ONE OF THEM.
EIGHT YEARS LATER, 2012, I CREATED THE SECOND SCENE OF
SUGAR HILL SOCIAL CLUB, THERE ARE PROFOUND DIFFRENCES
AND THE OVERALL COMPOSITION, REMAINS THE SAME WITH
SLIGHT TRANSITIONAL TOUCHES. BLACK HISTORY MONTH
IS A MONTH, I BELIEVE IN BLACK HISTORY YEAR BECAUSE
OUR TREMENDOUS CONTRIBUTIONS ARE PERPETUAL AND
EVERLASTING. STAY HIGHLY BLESSED - MK/ARTIST - 2020
