Goin Bananas!

In creating the official invitation image for the exhibit, I wanted to capture the "mystique" of Josephine Baker. Her asymmetrical attributes both physically and psychologically - Josephine is a Gemini, as am I. No dull moments, can I ever recall.

The 100 artworks I created for the exhibit went through an intense editing process by Cynthia McCoy, Artistic Director of the exhibit. In total, I created 152 artworks that explore this utterly fascinating woman. She was not perfect, yet she was magnificent. 

I consider my art interpretations to be an "excavation" of sorts. I have imagined a full gamut of emotions as expressed by Josephine, show-stopping mercurial heights to devastating lows courtesy of Carnegie Hall and later, The Stork Club. Ask Walter Winchell.

The influence of my career as a Haute Couture designer permeates throughout the exhibit. Josephine's signature banana belt serves as a metaphor - bananas appear as evening gowns, wallpaper, furniture, they fly through the air, Josephine embarks on a glorious adventure in the sky, a cocktail in her hand! 

The VIP GUEST LIST is comprised of luminaries invited by our exclusive Advisory Board. In addition, a selection of my art collectors and personnel from various art institutions and museums will be in attendance.
