François Hippolyte Lalaisse (1810 – 1884) Sixty works on paper at Didier Aaron
The exhibition will include sixty drawings by François Hippolyte Lalaisse (1810 Nancy – 1884 Pairs) of a great variety of subjects: it will encompass both mythological and academic subjects with some écorché figures; there is a sheet of ancient Egyptian sculptures at the Musée du Louvre, Paris, as well as studies taken from nature and everyday life including landscapes, figures, horses and livestock. Lalaisse’s preferred medium was chalk, especially for figures and animals, but he also used pen and ink, wash, watercolour and oil. The drawings probably date from various stages of his career; one is dated 1837; some of the sheets are signed or initialed. The drawings, which are presented for sale, are from two albums formerly in a French private collection. They have never been shown before and are therefore remarkably fresh
