An extraordinary group of nineteen contemporary artists working in the genre of representational painting explore the multifarious sensory information universally experienced in urban life. The urban setting and its corresponding lifestyle serve as the source inspiration for these extraordinary new works. Highlights of the exhibition include Alexandra Pacula’s vibrantly nuanced photorealist night paintings and Matthew Carter’s exploration of the cityscape from a shifting spatial and temporal viewpoint. Karen Woods’ atmospheric paintings capture the streetscape through the interior windshield of a car, while rivulets and beads of rain on the glass distort and obscure the exterior view.
