The American Federation of Arts (AFA) is pleased to announce a private tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s New American Wing Galleries for Paintings, Sculpture, and Decorative Arts Led by Curator Thayer Tolles. In January 2012, the Metropolitan Museum’s collection of American art—one of the finest and most comprehensive in the world—returned to view in expanded, updated, and elegant new galleries. Described as “sensational” by Holland Cotter, the new galleries provide an enlightening and compelling experience of the history of American art from the 18th through the early 20th century. The centerpiece of the new installation is Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze’s magnificent Washington Crossing the Delaware, one of the best-known works in all of American art. The tour will be led by Thayer Tolles, Curator of the American Wing. Afterward, guests are invited to join a cocktail reception in the Charles Engelhard Court in the American Wing. The tour will begin promptly at 6 p.m. at the Information Desk in the museum’s Great Hall. Please enter through the main entrance on Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Admission is $75 per person. Please reserve your ticket before Tuesday, March 27. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.nycharities.org/events/EventLevels.aspx?ETID=4769 or contact Tiffany Pak Carney at 212.988.7700 x247 or by email at tcarney@afaweb.org.
