Raise the Roof: The Home in Art
https://www.heckscher.org/exhibitions/raise-the-roof-the-home-in-art/
Exploring the spaces we inhabit, Raise the Roof encompasses more than 50 artworks from The Heckscher Museum’s collection that reflect the many meanings of home. The house is a site where daily life unfolds, work takes place, identities cohere and shift, memories form, and imaginations take flight. The art on view in Raise the Roof: The Home in Art demonstrates the central role that our homes play in our lives and in art.
Raise the Roof debuts significant recent additions to the collection by contemporary artists such as Courtney M. Leonard, Kenji Nakahashi, Becky Suss, and Stella Waitzkin, and features a promised gift by sculptor Ed Haddaway. Never-before-exhibited photographs by Larry Fink and prints by Robert Dash are featured as are artworks by Romare Bearden, Salvador Dali, Olafur Eliasson, Miriam Schapiro, and Esphyr Slobodkina. Each artist’s work embodies home in a singular and intimate way.
