On September 24, Guernsey’s will be conducting a massive Rock & Roll Auction held live at 82 Mercer in the heart of New York City’s hip SoHo district. Several important collections along with many treasured individual objects will be sold. Among these is the complete collection from New York City's legendary Manny's Music Shop. Since the 1930's, famous musicians traveled to Manny's to buy their instruments. It quickly became a tradition that when music legends stopped in to the store, they left a photo of themselves inscribed to Manny which ended up with more than a thousand others covering the walls of the famed shop. Starting with the Big Band and Crooner eras (Ellington, Sinatra and Ella) and including Jazz and Blues greats, the real focus of the Manny's collection became Rock & Roll. With Manny's now closed, the collection is coming to auction. Signed images of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Buddy Holly, Bob Marley, The Who, Tom & Jerry (a very young Simon and Garfunkel), Led Zeppelin, U2, the Talking Heads, the Ramones and virtually everybody in between represents perhaps the most extraordinary collection of its type in existence. Looking back on Michael Jackson's unprecedented career, it is abundantly clear that the talents of this extraordinary individual extended far beyond the stage. Indeed, a review of his artwork clearly indicates his talent as a fine artist. Just recently, an important collection of Michael's drawings was gifted to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles in his memory. The two-sided original drawing is one of the most significant works by the artist yet discovered. The most noteworthy of the two sides depicts the artist's own close-up rendering of his world famous moves as a dancer... the Moon Walk. "Fifth Beatle", Stuart Sutcliffe, for the very first time, examples of his work are to be sold at auction. Six original paintings that Stuart produced in Germany while he was living in Astrid’s family home are being sold along with a number of letters written by Stuart and Astrid. In addition to everything above, the auction will include such wonderful individual items as Elvis Presley's very first guitar, six original paintings by Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon's last car (a Mercedes station wagon), ten cartoon drawings John Lennon collaborated in that resulted in what most agree was the first music video, Paul McCartney’s boyhood art, fifty guitars - some noteworthy because of their rarity, others because of their association with legendary musicians - and countless other treasures. Part of the items are currently posted. But many others are continuing to be added as the event gets closer. For those unable to attend in person, one can bid in advance or in “real time” at liveauctioneers.com. Please visit www.guernseys.com for auction and preview hours.
