Huntington, NY –The Heckscher Museum of Art is now accepting entries for the 2022 Long Island Biennial, a juried exhibition featuring works by visual artists from Suffolk and Nassau Counties. The Biennial reflects the area’s thriving art scene by featuring artists that represent a considerable number of communities throughout Long Island. The exhibition offers Long Island's emerging and established artists the opportunity to gain broader public awareness of their work. The exhibition will take place October 1, 2022 to January 22, 2023.
Inaugurated in 2010, this year’s Biennial exhibition will again expand to all four Museum galleries. Updated guidelines will give all submitting artists more opportunities. Each artist can submit up to three works of art for the jurors’ consideration. Entries may be submitted in the following media: painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, and mixed media. Long Island Biennial applications and complete Guidelines are available at Heckscher.org. Applications for Long Island Biennial are open through April 30, 2022.
Three accomplished women with impressive art credentials will be jurying The Heckscher Museum’s prestigious Long Island Biennial for 2022. They will use their extensive skills to choose artwork for the always anticipated, Museum-wide exhibition. The jurors are Heather Carter, founder of Carter Fine Art Services; Gabriela Gonzalez Dellosso, contemporary fine artist; and Dr. Susan Van Scoy, Professor of Art History at St. Joseph’s College, Long Island.
“I am really looking forward to seeing the art submitted to this great exhibition,” said artist Gabriela Gonzalez Dellosso. “As a juror, I will be looking for art that is visually captivating and that engages the audience. Styles ranging from abstract to representational that have the “WOW’ factor — where the work successfully invites the viewer to look and discover — will definitely be at the top of my list of choices.”
In 2020, the Museum received more than 800 artwork entries, with 100 works selected for exhibition, representing artists living in Long Island communities stretching from Freeport to Port Washington to Shelter Island Heights.
