Art financier gets into auction guarantees

Asher Edelman, the former corporate raider who helped inspire the character of Gordon "Greed is Good" Gekko in the 1987 film "Wall Street," has taken up a new position: art financier. Going beyond art lending, he says he intends to guarantee artworks bound for auction, even lower priced works. Also an art dealer, Edelman's brash tactics were recently displayed at Art Basel Miami Beach. He stormed the show with U.S. marshals who confiscated $15 million worth of art from a gallery in an insurance dispute with Edelman.
