Texas is in for a treat. About 100 works on paper by American masters from Georgia O'Keeffe to Andrew Wyeth---many rarely exhibited because of their delicate, light-sensitive constitutions---will be on view through May 30 at Fort Worth's Amon Carter Museum in a special loan exhibition from the Wadsworth Atheneum.

Rarely-viewed gems include John Marin's early abstractions featuring bright-red suns. Since red watercolor is notoriously unstable, and it "suffers damage every time it is put on view," says Carter curator Jane Myers, public viewing of these works is truly an opportunity.

"American Moderns on Paper: Masterworks From the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art" is accompanied by a scholarly catalogue, published by Yale University Press, and presenting new research on the relevance of watercolors, drawings and pastels on paper to the history of modern art in America. The exhibition was curated by Elizabeth Mankin Kornhauser, Chief Curator and Krieble Curator of American Painting and Sculpture at the Wadsworth.
