The best of the best lures collectors to Maastricht

From a newly discovered “Winter Landscape with Skaters” (1611) by Adam van Breen – one of the earliest winter landscapes by any Dutch painter - offered by exhibitor John Mitchell, to a stunning Cycladic marble head from 2500-2400BC from dealer Rupert Wace, word is getting out about the treasures to be unveiled at TEFAF Maastricht, March 12-21.
High vetting standards, qualified buyers, and peer expectations helps push TEFAF exhibitors to bring the best the market has to offer. Although known for antiques, modern and contemporary art is making inroads at the fair in an attempt to draw in younger collectors. For one, new exhibitor L&M Arts of New York is showing De Kooning’s 1982 “Untitled XVI” tagged at €3.7m.
